Martijn Stolker Breathwork contraindications

Breathwork, in the form of workshops, breathwork journeys, one-on-one coaching sessions, and retreats, has the following contraindications. If one or more of these apply to you, please indicate this upon registration. Failure to disclose your indications before breathwork is at your own risk; see also the terms and conditions.

Below is a list of general contraindications for breathwork. For privacy reasons, I can't ask you to share your medical history/record. Therefore, it is crucial for your own safety, that of any other participants, and for my own that you are aware of your responsibility to take these contraindications seriously and to discuss participation with me if any of the issues on this list apply to you.

If you have any health issues or injuries that might prevent you from participating in any part of the program, please contact me prior to the session, so we can discuss more, and ensure everyone can participate at their own level:

List Title

  • Pregnancy (at any stage)

  • Serious PTSS of trauma

  • Active use of recreational drugs

  • Use of medications that alter brain structure, such as anxiety medications, antidepressants, ADD and OCD medications, etc.

  • Retinal detachment

  • Glaucoma

  • Kidney diseases

  • High blood pressure

  • Cardiovascular disease, including angina, previous heart attack or stroke

  • Diagnosis of an aneurysm of any type

  • Uncontrolled thyroid disorders

  • Diabetes (any type)

  • Severe asthma - for mild to moderate asthma we can discuss this, but it is important to bring your inhaler to the session

  • Epilepsy

  • History of epileptic seizures

  • Previous diagnosis of bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, or another psychiatric condition

  • Serious psychosomatic disorders

  • Recent surgery, stitches or injuries

  • Hospital admission for a psychiatric disorder or emotional crisis in the past 10 years
